I think it's really important that you discuss with your doctor. I will make you not afraid, but lead to reduced fertility, undescended testes, have the ability to have children, and a greater chance of a few problems in later life.
There are several published studies increased with testicular hormone therapy in 5-50% of cases.
Surgery is by far the most common treatment and has a better success rate.
However, if they are not interested in surgery, maybe you could talk to your doctor about hormone therapy to try and then if it fails, go to the operation.
